Ocean Diving In The Riviera Maya

The coastal waters of the Riviera Maya are home to the second longest coral reef in the world and the longest in the Western Hemisphere, the Mesoamerican Reef, which stretches nearly 1,000 km/620 miles from the northern tip of the Yucatan peninsula down to the Honduran Bay Islands.

Cozumel, and towns such as Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen, Puerto Aventuras, Akumal, and Tulum are part of the coral reef. A truly unique ecosystem, with nearly 70 species of stony coral and more than 500 species of fish as well as sea turtles, whale sharks, bull sharks, and the largest population of manatees in the world.

In addition, along the shores, mangroves provide a habitat for fish and shorebirds as well as protect coastal areas from damage from strong storms.

With all this, the natural beauty of the ocean, the fabulous sandy beaches, and the crystal clear and warm waters of the Caribbean make scuba diving in the Riviera Maya an unforgettable experience!
