INTRODUCTORY CAVE DIVER
We teach the Introductory Cave Diver program following the standards of IANTD (International Association of Nitrox and Technical Divers).
Program Purpose
The second step towards the full Cave Diver certification is the Intro to Cave Diver course during which you will develop a valuable foundation of cave diving skills.
It is at this point that you will first depart the daylight zone of the cave overhead environment. The objective of this course is to refine the basic overhead skills introduced at the Cavern Diver level, perform various emergency procedures within the cave zone, and begin to develop the awareness necessary to safe and enjoyable cave diving. Students at this level are limited to main line penetration only—no jumps, gaps, traverses or circuits are allowed at this level.
Program Prerequisites
Certifications requirements: Candidate must hold a Cavern Diver certification
Age requirement: Candidate must be a minimum or 18 years of age
Dive experience: Candidate must provide proof of a minimum of 50 logged dives
Program Requirements
Candidates must complete:
– A minimum of 100 minutes of overhead environment bottom time
– Minimum of four (4) dives if previously qualified as Cavern Diver, or a minimum of six (6) dives if doing the Intro to Cave Diver as entry level overhead diving program
Program Limitations
– Dives must begin with a minimum visibility of 9m/30ft
– Maximum penetration is limited to 1/3 of single cylinder or 1/6 of double cylinders
– No complex navigation—main line penetration only (no gaps, jumps, circuits, or traverses)
– Maximum depth is limited to 132 ft/40 m
– Dives must remain within no decompression limits
Program Content
Lecture includes but is not limited to:
– Academic classes
– Equipment configuration including redundancy and streamlining
– Practice running the line and making tie wraps; following guidelines with and without vision
– Share gas while exiting the overhead environment, both with and without vision
– Perform lost line procedure
– Perform lost diver procedure
